Alfred and I loved to stop at this woman’s outdoor vending stall in Sacapulas, just after crossing the Rio Negro. She was fond of Alfred, and would sometimes give him a free bag of peanuts. Her stand is right under some large mango trees, and in season the mangoes drop on the covering tarp, and she and other vendors then place them on their stands for sale. One of my great memories is eating a fresh mango purchased from her during the dusty drive up the Cuchumatánes mountain range, and contending with mango juice dripping from hands and mouth in the car.
